Marcelo Gallardo has confirmed that striker Fernando Cavenaghi will be leading the team

River Plate manager Marcelo Gallardo has confirmed that striker Fernando Cavenaghi will be leading the team for the all-important clash against Tigres in the Copa Libertadores.

The club could only manage a 0-0 draw the first leg, which puts the tie in delicate balance going into the second leg. This is the final stages of the 2015 Copa Libertadores andGallardo will feel an accomplished man if his team comes out on the right side. His task has been tough due to the unavailability of some key players like Mora. Hence, Cavenaghi will be starting the game along with Lucas Alario as a pair.

This should see River Plate going into the game with sufficient strength in attack due to the experience of Cavani. This experience is also a key factor in helpingGallardo decide the captain for the match. The former Villarreal forward will be leading the players against Tigres. Gallardo will be hoping that Cavani makes his job a little bit easier. The manager will not be allowed to stand in the touchline due to a suspension. However, he has confirmed that this will not prevent him from making an impact on the team as he has thought of other ways to do so.

“Cavenaghi is going to give us experience and goal chances, that sniffer’s nose he has inside the penalty box to finish off anything that comes his way.No one is going to stop me being there. It’s a lie that I won’t be at the team talk, I won’t be on the bench but I’ll be there [in the dressing room]. What’s different is that I might not be in the dugout but people who I trust will be there and they are well prepared,” said Gallardo about his striker Cavenaghi and his own suspension from the sidelines.
