CAV UNSURE ON FUTURE

River Plate manager Matias Almeyda has surprised everyone by saying that he is not sure whether the star striker Fernando Cavenaghi will remain at the club into the new season. Fernando Cavenaghi has been one of the reasons for getting River Plate promoted back into the first division. However, coach has revealed that he is not sure whether the former Bordeaux and Mallorca star will remain at the club beyond this season. Fernando Cavenaghi has stated that his dream would be to returning to his boyhood club River Plate, but he did so under very difficult circumstances when the club were relegated to the second division for the first time in their history.

However, the 28-year-old has been a significant reason in helping the club getting promoted to the first division. He alongside the former Juventus star David Trezeguet managed to score the majority of the goals for River Plate in the second division. Matias Almeyda has said that he is not sure whether Cavenaghi will remain at the club because he has promised the arrival of many new players at the club in order to strengthen them. Such increased transfer activity is essential for the club to remain in the first division according to the manager.

“[Cavenaghi and Alejandro Dominguez] came to do their part and they achieved their objectives. I will sit down with the directors to see what contracts are ending. A lot of people will be returning. We are grateful for those that returned, but a cycle has come to an end. [River] will be strengthening. We want a competitive team. Changing it means getting better, not worse; this team won the Nacional B and you always want changes to enrich things,” said the manager Matias Almeyda in a recent interview given regarding the future of Cavenaghi.
