CHELSEA EYE KURZAWA

According to reports from France, Chelsea have begun concrete talks for PSG full-back Layvin Kurzawa. The defender had earlier been told that he would not be offered new terms by the Paris club and is set to leave in the summer.

PSG are ready for a mini clear out at the end of the season. Edison Cavani, Thiago Motta and Kurzawa are expected to leave the capital club at the expiration of their contract at the end of the season.

Cavani, 33, is the all-time top scorer of PSG. Former Bordeaux striker Fernando Cavenaghi opines that PSG will struggle to replace the veteran striker. But he believes the acquisition of Mario Icardi will go a long way to ease the goal scoring burden of the club next season. PSG signed Icardi on a season-long loan last season from Inter Milan. PSG announced earlier last week that they have agreed on a permanent deal for the Argentine striker.

Kurzawa has attracted the interest of several clubs in Europe and was close to a transfer to Arsenal last summer. The Gunners also asked about the player’s availability during the January transfer window. But no deal materialized, as the player stayed in Paris.

Chelsea see the Frenchman as an alternative to first-choice transfer target Ben Chilwell of Leicester City. The English man will not come cheap, as Leicester City will demand for £50 million for the 23-year-old.

Kurzawa is said to be open to making a switch to Stamford Bridge and talks have begun with his representatives. The attacking fullback is known for his attacking qualities but can sometimes pose a liability in defence.

Chelsea are looking to build a team that can compete for the Premier League next season and the club has identified Kurzawa as a decent squad player.
