Lopez expects Torres to be major success

Former Real Madrid goalkeeper Diego Lopez, who joined AC Milan in the summer on a free transfer, has revealed that he expects Fernando Torres to be a major success at the San Siro. The Chelsea striker moved to Milan on a two-year loan spell, which is likely to be converted into a permanent deal should he find his scoring boots once again. The 30-year-old has scored only around 30 league goals in more than 100 league appearances for Chelsea. His disappointing form has been going on for the last four years, which has brought the career of the striker to a standstill.

After the arrival of Diego Costa at Chelsea, it was becoming clear that Torres would not become a first choice striker. This would further limits his chances of rediscover his form, he decided to take the option of joining Milan, who recently sold their star striker Mario Balotelli in a £ 16 million deal to Liverpool. The absence of Balotelli is a key reason towards Torres joining Milan, as it would represent more first-team opportunities for the striker. It is widely expected that Torres will make his debut against Parma. Milan have made a great start to the campaign, but they need three points against Parma in order to go into next weekend’s match against Juventus with confidence.

“Fernando has always done incredible things. He will bring goals, speed, hard work and he can be very important,” said Lopez. “Torres had a difficult year, but he has great desire to do well. His physical tests were good and I hope that with him Milan will change greatly. I have seven strikers and I’m spoilt for choice, my task is to get the most out of them and to understand how to inter-change between them,” said manager Filippo Inzaghi.
